The following was found in the Tewksbury Almshouse Inmate Case
Histories, Vol. 16, 4/1872 to 10/1872, Tewksbury, MA., case 39162:
Clarke, Henry, 54, came there from Boston August 14, 1872. 54, born
Sydney, Cape Breton, landed in Boston 1838 direct to Newburyport. There
till 1845, then to sea. Since resided in various places in New England
and Provinces. In no place 10 years. Not naturalized. No property.
No taxes. No service. Single. Ship carpenter. No friends known. No
home. Father, Lewis, resided in Mass. but 2 or 3 years, dead many
years. Mother, Ann, dead. No institution before. Came from Sydney one
week ago on schooner, Capt. Michael Florian, as a passenger. Had
resided in Sydney past 5 years. Intemp. Abscess on thigh. Died July
8, 1875.
