We regret to record the death on Saturday evening,Feb.28, of Mrs. Wm.R.
Payne of McColl Street.
The deceased was before her marriage Jamesima Doherty, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James Doherty of Thorburn and possesed a host of friends who will
grieve with her bereaved family for her passing. She was a staunch friend, a
kind neighbour, a beloved wife and mother and a faithful member of St.
Andrew's Church. In her immediate family she is mourned by her husband,
three daughters, Wilda, Maud and Isabell and one son, Robert; also four
sisters,, Mrs. John D. Chisholm, Mrs. George MacLeod, Mrs. Alex McPhail,
Mrs. John McDonald and two brothers, Fred in Victoria,B.C., and Dannie in
Thorburn and her aged stepfather, Dan McKinnon of Thorburn. The funeral was
held on Tuesday, March 3rd at the home on McColl Street.

Mrs. Alfred P. MacLeod
Providence, R.I.
News of the passing of Mrs. Alfred P. MacLeod, was conveyed to Westville
relatives on Saturday. Mrs. MacLeod had been in failing health for some time
but her sudden death was attributed to a heart attack. She was in her 70th
year and was the former Alexina MacDonald, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh MacDonald, Glengarry.Before moving to Providence about seventeen years
ago, the MacLeod family resided at Middle River and Mrs. MacLeod was very
well known here, where for the past number of years they returned for their
annual vacation.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred P., one daughter, Mrs. Fraser
Cameron, Providence,R.I., and one son, John Alfred MacLeod, Hartford, Conn.,
and by four grandchildren. Other surviving members of her family include a
sister, Mrs. Euphemia MacQuarrie, Glengarry and two brothers, H.J.
MacDonald,Westville and John A. MacDonald, Ottawa.
The funeral service was held on Sunday afternoon in Providence.

Mrs. W.H. Smith
Vancouver
At Vancouver, B.C. on Tuesday morning, March 3rd, there passed away after
a lengthy illness, Susan B. Smith, wife of Rev.W.H. Smith,D.D. The late Mrs.
Smith was 74 years of age, and besides her husband she leaves to mourn two
sons, Cedric G. Smith of Vancouver and Laurie P. Smith of Seattle, Wash. A
daughter, Frances passed away three years ago. Dr. and Mrs. Smith are well
known in the East, both being Pictonions, and Dr. Smith having held
pastorates in Ferrona Junction, Summerside, Sydney and Fredericton, before
going to Vancouver some years ago. The late Mrs. W.J. Fraser, of MacKay
Street, New Glasgow, was a sister of the late Mrs. Smith.

Mrs. Annabelle Collie
Providence
There passed away on Sunday, February 2nd, 1942, at 78 Blackmore Ave.,
Auburn, Rhode Island, Annabelle MacGregor(Fraser) Collie. Born at
Brookville, Pictou County, September 11th, 1850. She was twice married, her
first husband was John R. Fraser. Of this union there were 8 children, 4 of
whom survive. John M. of East Providence, who with his wife accompanied the
remains to New Glasgow; Gladstone of Flint, Michigan; Mary, Mrs. George
Havens and Rachel C. of Providence, also 7 grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. Her second husband was Anthony Collie of Rocklin, Pictou
County who predeceased her 28 years ago. Services were held at the Ira
MacKenzie Funeral Parlors, Providence, on Wednesday, Feb.25th, conducted by
the Rev. Campbell of the Church of the Redeemer(Episcopal). The remains were
forwarded to New Glasgow where services were held on Saturday, Feb.28th from
the home of Mr. J.K. McLennan, Forbes St., conducted by Rev. Capt.N.D.
Kennedy of First Presbyterian Church. Choir members of First Church led in
the singing of :The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Abide With Me".
Burial was made at Riverton, Pictou County. Pall bearers were Clarence
MacGregor and Dave MacGregor, nephews of the deceased, Alton Fraser, Donald
C. Fraser, Henry Fraser and J.K. MacLennan.
