Ex-Warden of Colchester Dies
Truro, March 11- One of Colchester County's oldest and most prominent
citizens, Reuben Starrett of Bass River died at his home there today at the
age of 93. In failing health for some time, his death was not unexpected.
A native of Bass River where he lived his entire life, he was closely
identified with the community's progress and took an active part in the
buisness and civic welfare of the district. Playong a leading part in
municipal affairs, he was warden of the county for nine years and
represented his district on the municipal council for a period of 27 years.

Mrs. Henry Dickson
Pictou
The death of Mrs. Henry Dickson occured Saturday at Sutherland Memorial
Hospital, Pictou. Although in poor health over a long period of years she
was a patient in the hospital for only a couple of days before her death.
She was in her 75th year. Born in Upper Musquodoboit, a daughter of the late
Alexander and Agnes(Watson) Parker, she came to Pictou about 50 years ago at
the time of her marriage and had resided here ever since, her many fine
qualities winning the esteem and affection of a wide circle. She was a
member of Pictou United Church and a life member of the W.M.S.
Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Miss Sadie, at
home; and Mrs. G.Wallace Dickson(Jean), Halifax; and one son Thomas H.,
Moncton. She also leaves two brothers, Thomas A. and Joseph Parker, Upper
Musquodoboit, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Wells, Newton Centre,Mass; and
Mrs.(Dr.)Miner Dickson, Montreal.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from her home on the Old Road,
conducted by Rev.A.E. MacKenzie of Pictou United Church. Interment was at
Haliburton cemetery.

Tuesday, 17 March 1942:
Funeral Of a Westville Flyer
Sergeant Roy T. Oliver, Westville, came to his death while on a cross
country training flight on the northeast of Scotland, according to a letter
just received by his wife from his Group Captain.
Out of the five occupants of the aircraft, four were instantly killed and
the fifth, a Sergeant Air Gunner, escaped with broken ribs, and is now
recovering.
The letter to Mrs. Oliver gave details of the impressive military funeral
accorded her husband. The service was held at Kinloss, Scotland, conducted
by the Squadron Leader the Rev.Keyes Fraser, assisted by the Presbyterian
Chaplain. The interment took place in the cemetery of Kinloss Abbey.
Photographs of the funeral service and grave were also enclosed in the
letter. Sergeant Observer Oliver was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. George T.
Oliver, Westville and was 23 years of age. Two memorial services have been
held in his honor- at the St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville and at
the Hopewell Church.

Tuesday, 17 March 1942:
Miss Sophia MacLeod
The death occured on Saturday morning, March 7, 1942, of Miss Sophia
MacLeod. She was 74 years of age, a daughter of the late James W. MacLeod
and the late Eleanor MacKenzie MacLeod of Woodfield, N.S., where she spent
her early life. She spent some years in U.S.A. and has been an invalid for
the past number of years. The funeral service was on Monday March 11, from
the home of her brother, Mr. Hector D. MacLeod, conducted by Rev.C.G. Ward
of Merigomish. The hymns sung were"The Lord's My Shepherd"; "What A Friend
We Have In Jesus" and "The Sands Of Time Are Sinking ".
The late Miss MacLeod leaves two brothers, Hector D. of Meiklefield and
D.D. of the U.S.A.; also two sisters, Mrs. J.J. MacPhee, French River and
Mrs. A.A. MacKinnon, Peabody, Mass. Three sisters predeceased her.
The pall bearers were Messers. Roger MacMillan, Rod Chisholm, R.Dan
Chisholm, Angus Cameron, James W. Meikle and Allister MacDougall. Interment
was in Meiklefield cemetery.
