Angie:
Canadian census have been taken for many years. The first ones of real use
begin with the 1871 census. It lists all members of a family. Before that it
was just head of the house, with an age breakdown for the rest of the
family.
1881 and 1891 also list all members of the family, and the 1901 census also
adds a date of birth.
The 1901 census is the last one available to the public at present.
