IDA FERNEYHOUG - London, Ontario - Ida Ferneyhoug passed away on September
6, 2004 in London, Ontario at the age of 80 years. Born in Sydney, NS, a
daughter of the late Charles and Rachael Hopkins. Ida was a veteran of the
Second World War, serving with the RCAF. She is survived by her son, Mark
and a daughter, Sheila, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a
sister Bertha Mills of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and a brother Charles Hopkins
of Sydney, NS. Predeceased by her husband, Clarence, son, Gary, daughters
Karne and Cheryl, sisters, Jessie Brooks and Enid Gugins and brothers,
Hedley, Walter and Marshall Hopkins. Cremation has taken place and
interment will take place in Guelup, Ontario. Memorials may be made to a
chairty of choice.
CECELIA BROWN - 68 - Cape North - Cecelia Bernetta Brown, 68, a resident
of Highland Visions Society, Cape North, passed away Tuesday September 7,
2004 at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil's Harbour. Born March 21,
1936, in St. Margaret's Village, she was the daughter of the late John
Michael and Sarah Jane (Burton) Brown. She was a member of St. Joseph's
parish in Dingwall and a past member of the CWL. Cecelia is survived by a
daughter Linda Brown and a son, Benjamin (Jane) Brown, both of Sydney, by
two sisters Agnes Dixon of Glace Bay and Margaret Daisley of Moncton, along
with serveral nieces and nephews. Cecelia was dearly loved by all who knew
her. She was predeceased by sisters, Julia Brown, Georgina Young, Eunice
Fitzgerald, Emma Fitzgerald, Mae Brown, and Ellen Brown, by brothers Daniel
James, Earl, William and Michael. Visitation for the late Cecelia Brown
will take place Friday September 10, 2004 at St. Joseph's Church, Dingwall
from 11 - 1 pm at which time the funeral mass will be celebrataed with Fr.
Andrew Szulczynske officiating. Interment will take place at St.
Margaret's Cemetery, Bay St. Lawrence. Funeral arrangements are entrusted
to Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.
KATIE (CATHERINE) GREGOR - 83 - New Waterford - It is with deep sadness
that we announce the passing of Katie (Cathereine) Gregor, 83, of New
Waterford. Katie passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sept. 6,
2004. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Robert and
Margaret (Henderson) Dickson. Katie was a wonderful wife, a loving mother
and grandmother, and a loyal friend to all that knew and loved her. Katie
was always involved in her community, always willing to give a helping
hand. She wa a long standing member of the ladies auxiliary for both
Calvin United Church and the Maple Hill Manor. She was a member of the
Rebekah's Lodge No. 14 for more than 50 years and for many years she was a
member of the Eastern Star. Katie especially enjoyed her Tuesday
afternoons when she met with all her friends at "Growing Old Gracefully"
Katie will be sadly missed by her son, Robert (Willena) of Sydney, and her
gandchildren, Kristen and Matthew, both who loved "Granny's Sweets". She
is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved to visit Aunt Katie.
Katie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was
predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Fred Jr. Visitation will be held
Thursday September 9, 2004 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral
Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Funeral service will take place
Friday, Sept 10 at 11 am in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach
officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace
Bay Highway. A reception will follow in Calvin Hall. Family flowers only.
Donations in Katie's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. The
Rebekahs will be holding a prayer service at 6:30 pm Thursday September 9
in the funeral home.
MELVIN 'MEL' DAWE - Kelowna, B.C. - We regret to announce the death of
Melvin (Mel) Dawe who passed away August 24, 2004 in Kelowna, BC at the age
of 68 years. Melvin was born and raised in Sydney. He worked for many
yearswith Sears Co., when it was located on Charlotte Street. He also
served one term as presidnet of the Sydney Jaycees. After being
transferred to Sears in Ontario, he later retired and moved to BC. Mel is
survived by two sisters, Louise (Kaz) Siepierski of Sydney, and Phyillis
(Rod) Shaw of New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and
Hilda Dawe and brother Donald. Burial took place in Kelowna, BC.
SYBIL FLORENCE HOGG (nee HALLETT) - Ontario - Sybil Florence Hogg (nee
Hallett) passed away peacefully on September 6, 2004. Beloved wife of the
late Arthur Hogg. Dear mother of John ISieglende) and David (Janice).
Loving grandmother of Andrew Jeffery, Kelsey, Eric, Charis, and Matthew.
Beloved sister of Cora Hallett and the late Margaret Hallett and Olive
Lane. A private crematon service. A celebration of Sybil's life to be
held Saturday September 18, 2004 from 3:30-5:30 pm at 302 Brookdale Ave.
Toronto. Sybil will be buried next to her husband in North Hatley, Quebec.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke
Foundation.
