John Joseph 'J.J.' MacGillivary 91, NORTHSIDE EAST BAY John Joseph
MacGillivary, 91, of Northside East Bay, passed away Thursday, July 27,
2006, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital,
Sydney. Born in Northside East Bay, he was the son of the late Alexander
and Catherine (MacEachern) MacGillivary of East Bay. He was a lifelong
member of St. Mary's parish, East Bay. He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. He operated J.J. MacGillivary Building Contractors and his
family farm until retirement. He was fluent in the Gaelic language and
enjoyed storytelling. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary
MacKinnon; two daughters, Joanne (Francois Rouleau), Juanita; two sons,
Roderick and Clifford (Anne Marie) MacKinnon; his brother, Michael
MacGillivary, Sydney; and grandchildren, Ian, Julien and Samuel. He was
predeceased by his brother, Hugh Angus. Visitation for the late Mr.
MacGillivary will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Friday from 2-4
and 6-9 p.m. with a funeral mass to be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at
St. Mary's Church, East Bay. Interment in the parish cemetery. Donations

Catherine Braunmiller 91, SYDNEY Catherine Braunmiller, formerly of High
Street, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Harbourstone
Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late
Harry and Margaret Morrison) Archibald. She was a member of Bethel
Presbyterian Church and one of the oldest members of the original
congregation. She worked for several years at the Kinsmen Resource Centre
on Kings Road. She is survived by her sons, Joe (Connie), Coxheath, Gary,
Howie Centre; one daughter, Marie (Larry) Davidson, Dartmouth; 10
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her
husband, Alfonse in 1981, sisters, Mamie, Peg, Elizabeth, Ethel, brother,
Albert, and daughter-in-law, Bev. Visitation will be held Friday, July 28
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be
held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ritchie
Robinson officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Sheila Marina MacPhail 70, MASSACHUSETTS Sheila Marina MacPhail, 70, Newton
Highlands, Mass., U.S.A., formerly of East Lake Ainslie, passed away
suddenly at home Sunday, July 23, 2006. Born in East Lake Ainslie, she was
the youngest daughter of the late David and Annie (Butterworth) MacKinnon.
She is survived by sons, Russell Robert (Christine), Dedham, Mass., David
Charles, Newton Heights; grandchildren, Michael, Benjamin and Matthew. She
will be missed by sisters, Agnes Meely, St. Catharines, Ont., Mary (Bill)
Egan, Kanata, Ont., Irene MacKinnon, Sydney, Cindy (Stewart) Munro,
Whycocomagh; brother-in-law, James Birmingham, Brockville, Ont.;
sisters-in-law, Doris MacKinnon, Sydney, Joan MacKinnon, Inverness. She was
predeceased by her husband, Russell, sister, Lena, brothers, Lauchie and
Edgar, brothers-in-law, Phil Meely, Allister MacKinnon. Visitation will be
from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 30, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home,
Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Alexander
Grant Memorial United Church, East Lake Ainslie, Rev. Donna Tourneur
officiating. Burial will be in East Lake Ainslie Cemetery. Donations in
memory of Sheila may be made to Alexander Grant Memorial United Church,
East Lake Ainslie Cemetery or a charity of your choice. Words of comfort
