Cape Breton Deaths July 31, 2006 Monday

Frances 'Marie' Beaton PORT HASTINGS It is with profound sadness that we
announce the passing of our mother, Marie, on Friday, July 28, 2006, in
Strait
Richmond Hospital. She was bor n Sept. 14, 1925, one of six children to
Mary Rebecca (Mamie) and Duncan Francis MacDonald of Troy, C.B. She
graduated from St. Joseph's Convent in Mabou. She furthered her education
at Provincial Normal College graduating in 1945. She taught school for 11
years in various communities in Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia before
becoming a dedicated and devoted full-time mother, where she inspired in
her children the love of learning and teaching. As a loving and supportive
mother, her greatest source of pride was her seven children. She also
adored her 19 grandchildren and always put others before herself.
Throughout much of her life she obligated herself to the well-being of her
son, Brent, and her mother, Mamie. She also took great pride in maintaining
the family property with her love of gardening which ensured that 'the
first house on the Ceilidh Trail' was awelcoming one. She was an avid
reader with a keen interest in politics and world events. She thoroughly
enjoyed Cape Breton violin music and was particularly fond of step dancing.
She was a devout Catholic living her faith through her generous spirit,
supporting many charities, especially those committed to social justice.
