It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our
dear mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend, Joyce
Hickey. Joyce died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at the Northside
Community Guest Home, with her family by her side.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph
and Trixella (Symonds) Haggett.
Joyce worked for several years with the housekeeping staff of the
Clansman Motel in North Sydney. She was a member of St. John the
Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney; a life member of Branch #19
Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the North
Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club. Joyce was an avid bowler,
dart and cribbage player; and enjoyed spending time with her family,
especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Diania (John) Petrossie,
North Sydney, and Connie (Jimmy) Campbell, Sydney Mines; her
grandchildren, Krystia Petrossie and Justin Campbell; her sisters,
Doris (Eric) Sibley, Marlene (Elmer) Long, North Sydney, and Shirley
MacQueen, of Upper North Sydney; sisters-in-law, Sis (Bob) Faulkner,
Pearl Alain, Dot MacKenzie, Ann (Bill) Hawkins, Betty (Carl) Roberts,
Viola (Melvin) Crewe, Joan (Gord) Ferneyhough, Gladys (Lee) Fraser,
Joan Haggett; brothers-in-law, Buck (Alice) Hickey, Cecil (Catherine)
Hickey, Ike (Bev) Hickey, Gordie (Brenda) Hickey; as well as many
nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Joe Hickey, sisters, Nita and
Helen, brothers, Gordon and Brenton, her father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Pius and Emma Hickey, and brothers-in-law, Bobby and
Pius Hickey Jr.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Patrick
O'Grady and Dr. Tom Hewlett, the staff of the renal dialysis units of
both the Northside General and the Cape Breton Regional hospitals, as
well as the staff of the Northside Guest Home for the care and
compassion shown to their mother during her illness.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Joyce
will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican
Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will
be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis unit of the
Northside General Hospital.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.

Bradford P. 'Sonny' Vickers entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 10,
2010 at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, ON. at the age of 73.
Brad Vickers was the friend of John Walker; loved brother of Ernie
(Barb), Lloyd (Mia), Joyce (the late Jim), Esther (the late Jack),
Pauline (Gord), Hilda (Reiny), Marilyn (Nelson), Eldon (Trudy),
Florence (Ed), Valarie (Bob) and the late Louisa (the late Harley)
and Lorne. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Brad and Florence Vickers.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral
Home, 33 Peel St., Lindsay, ON (705-328-2721).
Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association (Lindsay) or the Heart
and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
