Muriel Isabelle Allen
Born In: Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of
Muriel Allen on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Westville, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Elsie Stewart.
Muriel was a devoted wife and mother. She was the heart of the home
and will be greatly missed.
Muriel is survived by her daughter whom she resided with, Cathy
(James Phillips), Howie Centre; sons, James and Terrence, both of
Sydney, and Richard Swain (Wallie), Westville. She is also survived
by grandchildren, Joanne (Timmy Fitzgerald), Troy Stewart,
Christopher (Jennifer) Allen, Tommy Allen, Terry (Danielle) Allen,
Jimmy Allen, Vanessa Allen and Myles (Jenn) Swain; as well as several
great grandchildren. Muriel is also survived by special family
friend, Brenda Pettipas, New Glasgow.
Muriel was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her mother, Muriel was predeceased by her husband, George
Thomas Allen in 1995, her son, Gary Stewart, and brother, Maurice
Stewart.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564
Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the funeral home chapel, with Captains
Clancey and Lynn Pippy officiating. A reception will follow the
service. Burial will take place at a later date.

Henry David 'Mickey' Jones

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of
Henry David 'Mickey' Jones on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the
Northside General Hospital.
Born in Bras d'Or, he was the son of the late George and Annie (Young) Jones.
David was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d'Or. He was employed
at Canada Post until his retirement. David loved to travel and did so
extensively with Helen, his wife of 49 years by his side.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Wendy (Jason) Daley and
Jacqueline (Brent) Black, both of Ontario; his grandchildren, Amanda,
David and Jessie; his great-grandchildren, Emily Ann and Jonathan
Alexander. Also surviving are his brother, Joe (Iris), Bras d'Or; his
sisters, Thelma (Bert) Adams, Ontario, and Lorraine Aylward, Ontario.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2010,
his sisters, Rachel Gorton and Mary Nugent and his brothers, Art,
Wilfred and Garfield.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care
of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will
take place today (Monday) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras
d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the Parish
Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in David's memory may be made to the St. Joseph Church Cemetery Fund.

Josephine 'Josie' (Finn) Copan

It is with great sadness we the family announce the passing of our
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Josephine (Josie) Copan on
Feb. 26, 2012, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, 3r floor,
with her family by her side.
Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha
(Poirier) Finn.
Josie will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as she was a
kind and gentle lady who was always there for everyone. She loved
playing bingo and scratch cards, and in earlier years she loved to
dance.
She is survived by daughters, Ernestine (Neil) MacKinnon, Juliette
(Dan) MacDonald, Bertha (Wendell) Fahey; sons, Ernie (Darlene)
Lussier, Clement (Darlene) Lussier and Emile (Gail) Lussier; 27
grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Trina and Ruth
Copan; stepsons, Louis and Jimmy Copan, as well as many
step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Josie was also predeceased by her first husband,
Gaston Lussier and her second husband, Alphonse Copan, sisters Julia,
Nellie May, Mary Catherine, Mary Jane, Annabelle, and brother John
James.
As per her request, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass to
celebrate Josie's life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. in
the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray
Huntley officiating with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery and a luncheon
to follow in the parish hall, Convent Street.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the
nursing staff on 3rd floor, Waterford Heights for the wonderful love
and care they gave to mom.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers
Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.

John 'Jimmy' Gouthro
Born In: Gardiner Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jimmy
Gouthro on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at home.
Born in Gardiner Mines, he was the son of the late James and Agnes
(Petrie) Gouthro.
In his younger years he was employed at Sydney Steel and worked as a
mechanic. His passion was shooting darts and watching the Toronto
Blue Jays.
Jimmy is survived by his two sisters, Gwen Walker, New Waterford and
Kay MacKenzie, Paris, Ont; many nieces and nephews; special friend,
Lee Baggs.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Billy, Mickey and George; one
sister Veronica, in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be
celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church,
Reserve Mines, with Rev Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will
be in St. James Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Curry's Funeral Home, 775
Main St., Glace Bay.

September 4, 1930 - February 18, 2012

Susan Buchanan (nee Penny)
Passed away peacefully on February 18, 2012 at the Billings Court
Manor, Burlington, in her 82nd year. Devoted and loving wife of the
late Thomas Edward Buchanan (2006); caring mother of Judy, husband
Ron McDonald, and Brenda Ann Buchanan; grandmother of Paul McDonald
and Andrea, husband Zandro Chan; and great-grandmother of Asher and
Ryder Chan. Susan, who was born in Birch Grove, will be deeply missed
and lovingly remembered by her siblings Mary Cole, Gill and David
Penny of Glace Bay, NS; Ethel White of Cambridge, ON; and George and
Wayne Penny of Halifax, NS; as well as many family and friends around
the world. A funeral service was held for at the ward Funeral Home in
Oakville, Ontario on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. It was a loving
tribute to a special woman who brightened the lives of many with her
love and humour. Susan's family would like to express a heart-felt
thank you to the dedicated and caring staff at Billings Court Manor.
Family and friends were received at the Ward Funeral Home, 109
Reynolds Street, Oakville, ON, on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 1 -
3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. in the chapel,
reception followed. As per Susan's wishes, Brenda Ann, Judy and
family, will bring her ashes to Cape Breton this summer where she'll
rest with their Dad at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Glace Bay, NS.
If desired, gifts may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
