Railway Employees Bathurst.
State Records NSW Kingswood ( ex Archives Office NSW) have railway
employees superanuation records for all railway employees who were employed
from I think 1901 till 1930/40 with in that period, they are arranged by
name. They include women gatekeepers if they were paid, I gather some kept
gate inexchage for accomodation if the husband was employed by the railway.
For interstate people you would need to contact them first to check, but if
you write from interstate with the appropiate money they would possibly
photocopy the relevant record cards and post them to you. If your ancestor
had a common name you may need to get several copied to find out which is
the right one. If you are there in person looking for John Smith you may
get an inch of cards to look through.
These records show where a person was stationed when, what their position
was, what they were paid, if they had leave without pay, if they were
docked pay for misbehaviour or downgraded for same, took part in the big
1930s strike. when they were promoted etc.
A great source of informaton and well worth the effort of a visit to
Kingswood if you have railway ancestors in the relevant time period.
