Subject: Anthony Nutter Will from England

Dear Nutter Researchers:

The following was just received from Tony Foster in Lancashire:

George Anthony Foster=92s Transcription of the Will of Anthony Nutter of
Goldshawbooth, Pendle, Lancashire, 1613,

Will of Anthony Nutter of Goldshawbooth, 1613

You will notice at in the will Anthony names his wife as Elizabeth.
Therefore, I believe this will relates to the Anthony Nutter who married
Elizabeth Feirnside at Newchurch in Pendle in 1583.
One of the major problems with 17th century handwriting is that the scrip=
t
contains numerous abbreviations. Therefore, I have included all the miss=
ing
letters in square brackets [a] and I have also included clarifications i=
n
square brackets. Hopefully this is makes everything clear, if not please=
get
back in touch.

In the name of God Amen:

Note from Tony Foster:

As I understand it, Anthony Nutter and Rainbrowne Tomson are occupying
copyhold land at a rent of 8s =BDd per annum. In the Duchy of Lancaster t=
he
Crown is the Lord of the Manor, hence the reference to his Majesty. Antho=
ny
has put his share of land into trust. Nuttall and Bullocke would only hav=
e
been involved for the purpose of surrendering the land to the Lord of th=
e
Manor. It was then granted back to Anthony's trustees Richard Nutter and
John Nutter.

The clerk seems to have missed out a few words; it seems that Anthony's
children or their guardians were to have a prior claim on the income, but
once certain amounts had been paid out, the trustees were to hold the lan=
d
wholly for the benefit of William Nutter.

Clearly the children were underage ie less than 21 years old.

I will sent the photocopies to Jan so that she can photocopy then and sen=
d as
sent onto you.
This has taken me 5 hours to transcribe =3D =A325

Dave, I will now move onto the USA documents.

Regards
Tony

(My note to Tony & Jan)

Tony and Jan:

Tony, thank you for the outstanding and fascinating transcription of Anth=
ony
Nutter of Goldshaw Booth's will. I'm sure we will all study it carefully=
,
taking some time to do so. I will post it on the Nutter Family LIST on t=
he
Internet. I think it is substantial progress for us.

Meanwhile, I do have an immediate recognition of the name "Croke" which
appears. In the Edgar Peal/Pat Southern work, "The Trials of the Lancash=
ire
Witches", Appendix 3, entitled "Cuttings from Family Trees", under "The
Nutters of Greenhead", it is made clear that the sister of the John Nutte=
r
who testified as a witness in the 1612 Lancashire Witchcraft Trial was
Margaret Crook. In fact, Margaret Crook also testified as a witness in t=
he
witchcraft trial.

This is pretty rich stuff.

So I would like to congratulate you on this step forward in our research.

Dave
