"Bill" Canfield, a long time Carson City resident, died Tuesday, May 2, 2002. He was born in Hill City, S.D. on March 23, 1932. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Canfield; his step sister, Peggy Cummings; one child, Billy Canfield; five step children, Thomas Thompson, Shirleen Martin, Lorna Thompson, Ruth Bunce, Dennise Brownwell. Along with 20 g-children and 20 gg-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill Served three and a half years in the USMC and was honorably dischared after being wounded in the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat. After his discharge, he stayed active in functions with the USMC League, The Order of the Devil Dogs, The Purple Heart Foundations, and several other military organizations. Services will be held for him on Friday, May 17, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery, a cemetery which he was instrumental in getting placed in Northern Nevada.
