Thank you for your quick reply to my post. The 1881 census in England where Amelia had returned to with the children cites Virginia as Alfred's birthplace. I am confident that it referred to Virginia City since the Fryer's remained in Nevada from their marriage until Amelia's return to England. An English relative could easily have erred between the state and the Nevada city. Joseph's brother Valentine was also in Virginia City so there is a connection there as well. I will check with the historical society and appreciate the suggestion. Again my thanks, Dawn
