Under Miscellaneous in the Directory, I found the following:

Population in 1852 was 57,715. Nine year increase in population 32, 291.
The directory also lists the Mayor, City Council members, Alderman, judges for various courts, etc., then goes on to list various banks, churches and all of the institutions that you would find in any large city, today.
