Sculls are the long, thin boats used for racing (usually rowed by several
people simultaneously with a coxswain(?) sitting at the rear of the boat
yelling out the timing of strokes. Try a Google search for "rowing" -
here's one of the hits I found: http://www.usrowing.org/

I found a newspaper artticle dated July 5, 1882 wherein several of my
ancestors made wagers on SCULL RACES and PUNT & TUB RACES.
Has anyone ever heard of them and what are they ?? There was also a DOUBLE
SCULLS purse.
