Subject: [NY-FREEDMEN] My apoligizes on 1924 article
Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 16:14:22 -0500
I have greatly offended someone on this list, and if I have offend any
others I apologize. That was certainly not my intent what-so-ever. I
am referring to the 1924 article I sent over, entitled,
NEGRO TAKEN FROM JAIL AND LYNCHED BY MISSOURI MOB
Does the list only want the good things? And what would that be? One of
the biggest problems with teaching history in this country, is that we
don't tell the whole truth. We don't like to admit
that horrible, unjust things happened that we should be ashamed of. We
give our children this nice pat tale of Martin Luther King Jr., and give
them the day off of school, without getting to the core of the
atrocities, that made him speak up in the first place. We don't admit
to our children that the Native American Indians basically got their
land stolen for pennies, and the Irish were treated like dirt on
someone's shoe.
So please advise as to what exactly this list is looking for, if it's
not the truth, then I will concede and un-subscribe. I truly do not
wish to hurt anyone's feelings, make them uncomfortable, or insult them
in anyway.
