Thanks, Mary. I did know those dates from other sources. I added the extra
years in my search because what I'd chosen didn't bring up the names
correctly. I still think it is something to do with being "browser-ready."
Lots of people who set up websites don't realize that lots of us don't use
Internet Explorer.

I used the site for the first time today with Netscape 7 and it worked
well, as far as searches went but when I click on a name, I got nothing.
Since Ancestry also has many of the NYC records, I used both sites
together. When I found a name through a search (on Castle Garden site)
that 'could be' who I was looking for, I then went over and searched on
Ancestry using the ship name and date of arrival. On ancestry, you can
usually get the original passenger listings.

I don't know if I can be a lot of help here as I am using an older version of
Internet Explorer with AOL and with a MacG3. When I clicked on the name I
got nothing also.
But I was accidentally able to highlight the whole page and then copy it
using command A and command C and then transfer it ot an e-mail with command V &
send it to myself. Second, third and fourth time I tried it, it refused to do
Command A.
But I discovered that when I clicked on the page first, I could proceed as
above. I wonder what they will be adding to the next column where it says "this
feature is not yet available". It could be something good.

The site must have been partially down for repair at one point because
repeatedly when I tried to go to a third page of De Vos, I got a browser alert
about local host and something about data not being displayed. Yet I could go to
third and fourth, etc pages of other surnames tried. I wish I knew more about
the site--like whether all the data is now in it and where it was transcribed.
I was told Ancestry.com sends off the Census, etc to either Malasia or
Indonesia for transcription by people who do not know our alphabet, let alone how
cursive writing can be translated into printed symbols.

So far I have come away empty handed and i am not sure if I should be happy
to have found yet another port where my ancestors did not come in.

I heard this also at a genealogy seminar. So, I also use HeritageQuest
which has supposedly the most accurate transcription of names. However,
HQ doesn't yet have 1930 complete.

Now, if someone would only do the NYS censuses....
