Barbara, thank you for the apology.
Since The NYS Appellate Division for each Department has a Committee on Character and Fitness of Applicants for Admission to the Bar, it might be good for Bill to contact each one in an attempt to locate the attorney.
Here is list of Departments & Districts (Section 70 Judiciary Law):
First Department consists of - 1st District: New York County at New York City
and 12th District: Bronx County at Bronx. Appellate Division at New York City.
Second Department consists of - 2nd District: Kings County at Brooklyn and Richmond County at St. George, Staten Island. 9th District: Dutchess County; Orange County; Putnam County; Rockland County; and Westchester County. 10th District Nassau County and Suffolk County. 11th District Queens County. Appellate Division at Brooklyn.
Third Department consists of - 3rd District: Albany County, Columbia County, Greene County, Rensselaer County, Schoharie County, Sullivan County and Ulster County, and 4th District and 6th District. Appellate Division at Albany.
Fourth Department consists of - 5th District, 7th District and 8th District. Appellate Division at Rochester.

You are right--I was forgetting it went a little north. I was admitted in New York 2nd Department 40 years ago.

Second Department is Brooklyn. Dutchess County is Third Department. The Association of the Bar of the City of New York would be as good place to call--they could probably set you in the right direction.

The NYS Appellate Division has a Committee on Character and Fitness of Applicants for Admission to the Bar. Try First Department at 212-779-1779 downstate New York and Second Department at 718-625-2214 for upstate New York ... they should be able to give you information on where records are kept for any and all persons who became attorneys. jc

Does anyone have an idea how to find a lawyer named Henry Cornell 1900-1930. I've searched the census, city directories and the NYT for over a month without success.
The only one I can find was the son of Gov. Alonzo Cornell; he was the wrong Henry Cornell .
I can not find any old records for the Bar.
Bill
