My gg grandfather Timothy Steven Pierce, emigrated to the U.S. in 1872.
Family says that he arrived in the U.S. through New York. Based on the
arrival date, he would probably have come through immigration at Castle
Gardens. I'd be interested to know if any of you have searched for
emigrants through Castle Gardens. I've done some searching through the
National Archives, but haven't taken the time to go through ship arrivals
in New York for 1872.

Are there likely to be any New York State records for immigration and/or
naturalization (he was naturalized in 1875)?
