First of all, thank you to all who have responded. Much appreciated!
James Steers Lake and wife, Jennie Woods, owned what the family referred
to as Sparkhill.
Jennie was my g'father's sister.
The photo that I have must have been taken ca 1903-06. Jim, Jennie, my
g'parents, and young uncle are sitting on the lawn with the house in the
background. My dad and his much older brothers summered at the Lakes.
We have a collection of the boys playing in the fields there.
Jim Lake was one of the founders of Lake and McCreery's dept. store,
which later became McCreery's.
Would like to reconstruct some of the stories surrounding Dad's boyhood
memories. Learning more about this estate would be quite helpful.
Again, thanks very much!
