Oh, wow, McCreery's! I remember liking the store - wasn't it on 5th Ave not
far from 34th? We used to walk up 5th, stopping at McCreery's, Arnold
Constable's, Altman's, Lord & Taylor's, and ending at Best's, shopping for
school clothes - having taken the West Shore railroad to Weehawken from
Rockland County, and then a ferry across the Hudson. Long time ago! So
interesting to me to learn that one of the founders of McCreery's was a
'local' person.
Land records are kept at the county clerk's office, and things have just
changed in Rockland. There is a new office, but they only have the more
recent Grantor/Grantee books there, from 1930-1980. I presume the older
books have been moved to the archives, and as soon as I can I will check
there to see if I can find a sale of property by the Lakes.
