Pat and List:

The certificate I have has the State of New York, Clerk's Office, Superior
Court, Buffalo, Erie County, heading, is notarized, and states:

"I, John Butler, do solemnly swear that it is bona fide my intention to
become a citizen of the United States of America, and to renounce forever
allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or
Sovereignty whatsoever, particularly to the Queen of Great Britain and
Ireland, whom I now owe allegiance.

Sworn before me this 28th day of October, 1881."

I take this to be the certificate of intention.
