MAC - you are great !
I did notice that there were 3 Rockfields in Mayo. Thank you, it appears
that they were living in the parish of Kilcolman.
Last week, I wrote to the parish priest of Kilcolman to see if they possess
the marriage certificate of Thomas French and Bridget Magragh. They arrive
in Brooklyn in 1830. I think they have marriage records back to 1805.
His son, Thomas, Jr. married a Margaret Gibbons some time before 1864 (birth
of their first child). NY census records say Thomas Jr. was born in NY
while his wife, Margaret was born in Ireland. I have seen that the name
Gibbons in a common name in Mayo.
Is there any where else I should be searching? I have been able to get my
family research back to the shore of Ireland because of articles I have
discovered in the on-line version of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle - this is a
great tool for research of Brooklyn and, to some extent, other parts of New
York City. This is a free on-line tool.
Thanks again,
Douglas Dooling
