Subject: Fitzsimons - Thomas and Mary (Oneida County) & Lowell, Ma

Thomas Fitzsimons born, Ireland - about 1805 - (married Catharine
O'Neil) they lived and started their family in the hills north of Utica
in Oneida County 1840s - later moved to West Schuyler, Herkimer County
1850s and beyond. Catharine O'Neil Fitzsimons died in 1848 and he
remarried CATHARINE - she had a son Patrick Barry - I don't know her
maiden name.

This summer I made a 2 day trip to Lowell, Ma and I learned that Thomas
is the brother of Margaret Fitzsimons Cassidy of Lowell, MA. She was
born in 1795. Their parents were Thomas and Mary Fitzsimons of Ireland.
Margaret had 3 sons who fought in the Civil War, Patrick, Edward and
James and 2 daughters - the one I've learned the most about is Sarah -
who married John E. Hope. They had 3 daughters - 2 of them - unmarried -
being Mary & Fanny (Frances)

Posting this new info - I'm wondering if this new info on my Thomas
might catch some other Fitzsimons researchers eye - I find it hard to
believe that he only had one sibling. There must be others.

There is a story - printed in The life and times of John Butler - Mary
Fitzsimons (Thomas & Catharine O'Neil Fitzsimon's daughter - John
Butlers 4th wife) the story is that Mary Fitzsimons was a cousin of the
famous boxer Robert Fitzsimons.

I haven't yet been able to find any info to support this - but I
certainly got the willie chillies when finding and reading the obit for
Patrick Cassidy in the Lowell Newspaper - on the exact same page was an
obit and story of the death that day of boxer - Robert Fitzsimons wife
!!!!
