Maybe so, but I spent 20 years searching for my great-uncle "Laurence" only
to find, by sheer luck and persistence, that he was baptized Patrick Laurence
and used P.L. as his first name!!! His daughter, Mary Ellen, by her teens
was Blanche. His sister, marrying into a Germanic tradition, went from Honorah
(Nora) to Leonora.. Our mutual great-grandparents went through life as
Michael and Bridget, but were listed on my grandfather's death certificate (I
believe through total ignorance) as John and Mary and the town clerk copied out
Mary Bridget's maiden name as BURRETT rather than BARRETT. My genealogical
search has been confounded, as you may imagine!

Mary
