Fall Series of Free Genealogical Workshops at the National Archives in
New York
WHAT: This fall the National Archives continues their series of free
genealogy workshops. Workshops will focus on beginning
research and using our many online resources.
September 13, 2005: Using NARA's Website To Search for Genealogical
Resources
October 11, 2005: Searching for Your Family Roots: Getting Started
November 8, 2005: Using NARA's Archival Research Catalog (ARC) for
Genealogical Research
December 13, 2005: Using NARA's Access to Archival Databases (AAD) for
Genealogical Research
WHEN: All workshops run from 12:30 - 1:15pm

Presented free of charge as a public service by the National Archives-
Northeast Region-New York City. The National
Archives-Northeast Region maintains archival records from Federal
agencies and courts in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico,
and the U.S.Virgin Islands.
The NARA facility in New York has extensive holdings that can be used
for genealogy research. These include microfilm
copies of Federal population censuses, 1790-1930; Revolutionary War
military and pension records; 19th century passenger
records for most East Coast United States and Gulf of Mexico ports; some
20th century records for Boston, New York, and
Canadian border crossings; World War I draft registration records (New
England and New York States only); and
naturalization indexes (New England, New York, and Pennsylvania only).
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.,
Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and the
first Saturday of each month 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., excluding all
Federal holidays.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) safeguards
records of all three branches of the Federal Government.
Our mission is to ensure that all Americans have ready access to
essential evidence that documents the rights of American
citizens, the actions of Government officials, and our national history.
