One of my gggrandmothers is listed as having borne 9 children in Ireland.
Three of those children came to Washington County as adults -we don't know
what happened with the other six.
One of the three who came to Washington County (Jackson, White Creek and
Cambridge) was my ggrandfather. He and his wife had 13 children (starting in
1856) - we can only account for 11. Of the 11 we know about, one died in
Cohoes as a result of a lung disease at the age of 18. He developed the
disease from working in the textile mills in Cohoes, an all too common
thing. The others all lived to marry and have families. One of those was my
grandfather. He and his wife had nine children, starting in 1891 - the first
and third child died as infants, the other seven survived. My dad and his
six siblings had 68 first cousins -I'm still finding cousins in my
generation - all part of the great treasure hunt!

Another ggrandmother had four children, three of whom died young. One died
at, or close to, birth, the other two were aged seven and five when they
died eight days apart in the diphtheria epidemic in Boston in 1883. Only my
grandmother survived.
