Mary,

I found this church which is about as close as you can get:

Church of St. Columba
343 West 25th Street
New York, NY 10001
Reverend Jose Serrano (Administrator)
(212) 807-8876

I
North:
343: St Columba Church, named for an _Irish saint_
(http://www.gospelcom.net/chi/DAILYF/2002/08/daily-08-22-2002.shtml) noted for converting the Picts and
confronting the Loch Ness Monster.
331: St Columba School
329: St Columba Convent

8TH AVENUE _===> N_ (http://home.nyc.rr.com/jkn/nysonglines/8av.htm#25st)
On July 12, 1871, in the "Slaughter on Eighth Avenue," as many as 70 people
were killed between 25th and 23rd streets when Irish Catholic snipers
attacked an Orange Societies Parade guarded by 3,000 police and militia soldiers.

What is your grandfather's name and when did he live...perhaps some of us
might help out.
