I re-joined Ancestry in March for a promotion for $99.00 for the U.S. Deluxe Membership, a good deal, and on my account there is a cancel button which was not there before. It will be interesting to see how that works next year when I cancel it.

Isn't it lousy when you go to a so-called "free site," click on a link and
it takes you to Ancestry.com, where you have to pay for really good
information?
Know what it reminds me of? It's like that old practical joke where somebody
gives you what you think is a box of candy, and you open it and a bunch of
paper snakes jumps out at you!

Just once I would like to be able to use the FREE ancestry site offered
at various times.
Especialy these military records...but NO way can I do so..
A half hour to an hour of putting in and repeating putting in name and
"password" comes back with I am not signed up or not right
password..........and invitation to join.......
Since I am signed up for free and give password and it is only password
I use for these things why can't they figure it out....seems to me the
words FREE, and Must join are it.
I tried using my Dad's name, then my grandfather, and then my brother,
and finally my Fathers' Father in law.......who I knew had served in
every cpacity of Navy from 1880's to his retirement around 1922-24.
Each and every time I was told to enter info, not right password or to
join..........get subscription.
This has ben going on over the years.
I had belonged to Ancestry many years ago when it was free- then joined
and gave financial info, ( by reg. mail only) and bought the dvd/cd
of ancestral info & names etc offered at the time to find I couldn't
use it on my mac...( by reg. mail only) ........Sent the family info
disk back and they never refunded my money. They kept insisting on a
credit card # which I also gave finally by reg. mail, but then
couldn't get OUT, when I no longer wanted and they kept charging me
each month.
I guess the reason for the FREE sites for a few days is to get more
people to charge higher and higher fees for one thing only..........
