The DD Form 214 is the MOST important document you can maintain. For
years they would not issue a duplicate. It is recommended VERY strongly
that any DD 214s on your family members be registered in the hall of
records of your home county, most do this for free. That means if your
original is ever lost or stolen a CERTIFIED copy can be obtained, from
the Hall of Records, and used in lieu of the original.
