Thank you. You made some excellent points as to how the average life
expectancy was determined, and if those who died as infants are considered in these
figures.
Here's a personal, rather sad example. Anyone want to do the math for the
average life expectancy of the couple's children?
O'CONNELL=CLARK family; both Famine Irish immigrants;
children born NYC; all deaths due to medical, not accidental causes
1859-- married
1861- Birth of Child #1, married, died age 45, no children
1863--Birth of child #2, single, died in his 20s; no children
1865--Birth of child # 3, sincle, died age almost 2 years; no children
1867--Birth of child # 4, single, died at almost 2 years; no children
1869--Birth of child # 5, married, died at 83; 10 children
1871, Jan.--Birth of child # 6, died within 10 days; no children
1871, Nov.--Birth of child # 7, died within 2 weeks; no children
1872--Birth of Child # 8, married, died in her 20s; no children
RECAP: A couple gives birth to 8 known children. Two died at less than two
weeks of age, and were never recorded in the family Bible. [Thank you to St.
Patrick's Old Cathedral "investigative reserchers" for finding them!], two died
at less than two years of age. Two died in their 20s. Two survived to full
adulthood, but only one
[my great grandmother] had children, who had no first cousins.
Is this what they mean by only the strong survive?
