In the 1920 census one of my cousins who lived with his family in Winfield,
Queens was counted twice. Once at home on LI, NY and once at his weekday
lodgings in New Haven,CT where he was working on construction of buildings at Yale
and going home on weekends. The US Federal census counted those usually
living in the house (as opposed to the Irish census which counted everyone present
on just one particular night) and I guess each household felt he was usually
with them:-) I believe he would have gone back and forth by Ferry rather than
by road which would have been difficult back then.
