Hi:
I am trying to find
information on James Henry Davids b 1833 Chittenden Co., Vermont, possibly
went to New York with parents named Joel Davids and wife Anna. He was a
soldier who went to Utah with Johnson's army (Utah Expedition) to put down
the Mormons in 1857. Tradition says he left a wife and child or children
"back east".
Tradition also says that he left Utah with the army, at the start of the
Civil War, but came right back
to Utah. In 1864 he married and raised a family. He wouldn't talk about
his family (parents & siblings). He was hiding either from his former
family or may have gone awol from the army.

The Family History Center here has a film from the Utah Archives of the
Utah Expedition, but no rosters of the enlisted men, just of the officers
and the journal of statistics and movement. He may have joined the Army in
New York by 1857? I would be interested in any Davids info.

Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks
Joyce
