I don't know whether something similar exists in New York, but here in Utah we
have a series of books (available at most university and genealogical
libraries) called "Veterans with Federal Service Buried in the State of Utah".
It's organized by counties. The information contained in this series includes
enlistment/discharge dates, ***service number***, next of kin, place of
burial, whether the VA provided a marker, among other details.
