Michele,
Thank you for your request, here is what I find.
>From page 75 Winslow Heath served in the Levies
under Colonel William Malcom, Major Elias Van Bunschoten.
Some of the Captains include, Blakslee, Bostwick, John Burnett,
Drake, Lawrence, etc.....
I see several of my ancestral surnames in this outfit. No county
is mentioned, but I assume Dutchess Co.
On the Major Gen. from page 270. There is not much more that I can give
you other than this information at the top of the page.
"Sundry persons whose service is evidenced in the Manuscripts on file
in the Comptrollers Office, but whose names are not found on the papers
of any of the Regular organizations.
So, we don't know apparently who your Heath Maj General commanded,
but I imagine at least a Brigade? Also, on the same page the name
of Horatio Gates, Maj Gen. appears.... this is very interesting,
I quickly turned to my copy of "Angel in the Whirlwind" by Benson Bobrick
to see what I could find on Gates....
pg. 133 "At Washingtons's request, Maj. Hotario Gates, with whom he
had served under Braddock (French and Indian War) and who was then
absent at his Virginia estate, was appointed adjutant General, also with the
rank of Brigadier."
So, there must be msomething more out there on your Heath Maj. General
and maybe he too, saw some previous service in the French and Indian War?
Maybe someone here will help. Hopw about it anyone know the Maj. Gen.?
Was he a NYer.
