Except for the Revolutionary War, most of the pension files have not been
microfilmed and so are available only in Washington. The jackets of pension
files for War of 1812 soldiers have also been microfilmed and frequently
have a lot of information such as spouse's name and where the veteran lived
while collecting the pension. Those microfilms are available through the
LDS FHC and other genealogical libraries. The NY State Archives has some
military information such as pay records but they contain little
genealogical information. Most of the NY State files on Revolutionary War
veterans were destroyed in a fire in 1911.

Anybody know if you can find pension/military information at any of the
regional archives?
