Ashley & Abel Curtis were Captains under the Command of Major John
Wheelock in the service of New York state from the time of their
enlistment until discharged by a vote of the Legislature of State Aug.

Major John Wheelock Sir where as we the subscribers did enlist in the
Corps Commanded by you as we understand said Corps is disbanded by order
of Council of Safety of this State we therefore require of you a
certificate as we cannot engage in any other service 'til we are
regularly discharged by you. We also are willing the value of our
clothing be deducted out of our back pay so no more. We remain your
humble servants:

State of New Hampshire: Hanover May 19th, 1777
Then Capt. Samuel Paine the within Signer personally appeared and made
solemn oath to the Truth of the within Muster Roll.
