Fellow Researchers,

G.M. Freeman asked: "I'm searching for info about an IRVING DREW probably of Rochester, NY who served in Co. F 147th Infantry. He was born in 1896 and died in Canandaigua, NY apparently in a VA Hospital in 1948. His stone shows his service in the above cited military unit.
Unless I'm incorrect men over 40 were drafted for a while in WWII. Yet
his age is consistent with service in WWI. Any assistance or tips are
appreciated as we try to track down more info about this person who may
be a relative."

I would inquire of the Veterans Administration, using a FOIA request (Freedom of Information Act), about your potential relative. Because you believe that he died at one of their hospitals, they should have some records attributable to his military service. These records will not be complete or detailed but they may provide more information than you already have. That is how I received a great deal of information on three great uncles who served in WWI and one uncle who served in WWII. If you go to the following website, it will explain what you have to do:

http://www.va.gov/foia/err/enhanced/frames.html

Click on the double doors, click on "To Request Records" and follow the instructions.

Good luck in your research.
