Republican Advocate - Batavia NY
May 5-1863

Personal.
Capt Ralph Chandler, who is in command of the Roanoke at New-York, and who
has been on a visit here for a few days past, left for New York on Thursday
evening.

Capt. Robert H Foote of the 14th N.Y. Volunteers, was home on a very short
furlough last week. He started on his return to his Regiment on the
Rappahannock, on Friday evening.

Capt Douglas, of the 18th Regulars, who has been with his family here
for a few days past, started for Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday morning last.
He is a graduate of West Point, and has seen much hard service since the
outbreak of the rebellion. During the progress of the several days' fighting
at Murfreesborough, he was severely wounded in the arm by a minnie ball,
which disabled him for service for some time. - His Regiment was the one
which suffered so terribly in that battle - losing a greater number of men,
we believe, than any other Regiment engaged.

Lieut. Brown, of Alexander, of the 9th Artillery - formerly 22d
Battery - has resigned and returned home, in consequence of ill health.

Capt J.D. Numan, of the 9th Artillery - late 22d Battery - has resigned.
*
Returning Volunteers.
Capt Root's Company of volunteers in the 12th Regiment, recruited from
here, is expected home daily. - They arrived at Elmira on Saturday morning,
and are to proceed to Syracuse, en route for home. Our citizens have made
arrangements to give our brave boys a cordial and fitting welcome.
