Obituary.
Died in Elba, March 12th, at the residence of his Son-in-law, Dr. J.S.
Billings, Capt. Stephen Selleck, aged 92 years and 2 months.
Capt. Selleck was a native of Stamford, Conn., and took part in the
exciting scenes of the Revolution; he served a part of the time as
Privateersman, and was also engaged in the land service, for which he for
many years received a pension. After the close of the Revolutionary
struggle, he was engaged as Master of a ship in the European West India and
Spanish Main trade until 1805, at which time he removed to Troy in this
State, then a comparatively small town, where he engaged in the Mercantile
and Forwarding business between that place and New York, which he prosecuted
successfully for many years. He afterwards removed to Elba, Gen. co., and
remained until his death.
