Jean

I was born in Plattsburgh and the only orphanage I know about was the Clinton County Home for children. I live about a block from where it used to be but not it has been converted into apartments about 10 or 15 years ago. I do not know where the records are at the moment if they even exist that far back. According to family stories my grandfather was adopted from their but that is even further back in the late 1800's. There are also Ransoms here around Clinton County today.

Your best bet is to contact the Clinton County Historian's Office or the County Clerks Office. They are both located in the County Building on Margaret street about three blocks from where I live.

I have not tried to research my grandfathers line in over eight years and I am not researching his ancestry at the moment because I have a good idea of his birth name and his ancestry back to the late 1500's. I have been researching the Bedard line since 1995 and have much information to consolidate. I have about 30,000 names with many duplicates from many sources. I have about 15% in one file.

Off the top of my head I do not know the exact street address but this is a small town and a letter to the County Building would be delivered without the exact address. I building is a little over 1 block from the postoffice. Send it to Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

I do not believe that they do research for you but they may point you in the right direction.

Keep in touch.

Mike

Looking for Early Benjamin Ransom who ran away from the Orphanage in
Plattsburg to join the army in world war I... are there records for Plattsburg?
