Barb & MBrown,
You may be able to find something in the online newspaper; "Brooklyn Daily
Eagle" 1841-1902 at; http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/eagle/. They have
articles not only for Brooklyn, but other parts of NY. I realize that's before
the 1920 time frame you're looking at, but you never know what clue you might
find. After entering the site, I find it easiest to use the Keyword Search"
tab at top, enter words like "Orphans Tarrytown" to find out what happened to
the orphanage, or, in my case "Five Points fire orphans". I haven't found the
article I need yet, but I was told there was a fire that burned all the records
at the Five Points Children's Home in Brooklyn, exact time, I don't know.
When the keyword search hits appear, click on the thumbnail, then a pop-up box
will appear with a scanned copy of the article, be sure to click on continue"
bar (if there is one, not all articles have one) at the bottom of the pop-up
for more articles to read.
