This message is being sent to the Troy Irish Genealogy Society (TIGS) mailing list, the Rensselaer County mailing list and the Irish-NY-Troy list.
On June 19, I sent a request to the Rensselaer County Clerk's Office for copies of the marriage papers for one of the records I found on the new Rensselaer County Marriage Index on the Troy Irish Genealogy Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/
Today, June 22, I received the papers in the mail.
While I already knew the names of the bride and groom, JOHN J. McCORMICK and CATHERINE A. TYRELL, I now know the following additional bits of information from these marriage documents:
1. John J. McCormick, was 30 years of age, born in Troy and this was his first marriage.
2. Catherine A. Tyrell was 26 years of age, born in Troy and this was her first marriage. (I had various spellings for the last name of the bride. Since she signed her name as TYRELL, that is the spelling I will now use in my records)
3. John was a rougher in a iron mill.
4. Catherine was a collar worker.
5. Parents of John were Matthew McCormick and Katherine Markey, both born in Ireland.
6. Parents of Catherine were Thomas Tyrell and Catherine Smith, both born in Ireland.
7. Witnesses were Thomas J. Mulholland and Margaret Tyrell.
8. Wedding was August 10, 1909 and the address of the priest was Stow Avenue, so the church had to be St. Michael's.
9. Priest's name looks like Patrick B. Dempsey.
On top of all the above information, you get to see the actual signatures of all the parties involved. It was well worth the $5.00 to get copies of these marriage records.
