I am looking for others researching Zimri DAVIS and/or his wife and 5
sons. Although the biography states he was from NH, the 1880 census has
him coming from VT. I am interested in any of these names mentioned in
the biography. I am especially trying to find some record of Zimri's
father's name although I realize info for this time period in western
New York state is sketchy. Any ideas where I might look?
Zimri came from NH about 1815 to Rochester, NY. He died there in
1828. The next year his wife, Joanna JOHNSON moved with the 5 sons
to Sardinia,Erie Co, NY. Joanna died in Illinois on Sept 19, 1875
The 5 sons names were Jerome, Davis, Francis Kidder (born Oct 22,
1822) in Rochester, Edwin, and Clifton. Frances Kidder was master of
the first boat that left Rochester for a trip over the Genesee Valley
Canal. He was the proprietor of the Globe Hotel at Yorkshire and
then properitor of the Forest House in Springville NY
Francis Kidder was married Dec. 31, 1846 to Mary F. Goodspeed b.
March 5, 1830. Francis Kidder died Aug 25, 1890 in Springville, NY.
They had 6 children: Byron b. Mar 21, 1849, married in 1866 to Dora
Bigelow; Francis K. b. Dec 11, 1855, married in 1874 to Aggie Wade,
Fred G, b. June 30, 1858, married Oct 4, 1881 to Ida T. Howard,
Minnehaha Co, Dakota Territory (now Sioux Falls); Willie H. b. July
27, 1860 and Nettie and Nellie (twins) b. Nov. 14, 1862.
This info was gleaned from the book "History of the Original Town of
Concord: Being the Present Towns of Concord, Collins, N. Collins and
Sardinia, Erie County, New York. Author: Erasmus Briggs.
Fransis Kidder is my ggrandfather and his son Fred G. Davis is my
grandfather.
