The Republican Advocate, Batavia NY
July 12-1859
Governor Morgan has issued a proclamation offering a reward of five hundred
dollars for the apprehension and conviction of James Nicols[sic], charged
with the murder of Eleazer Blackman, at Lancaster, in Erie County,on the
27th of June. Nichols[sic] is represented to be 58 years of age, about five
feet eight inches in height, stoutly built, sandy complexson, and with light
thin hair mixed with gray; he has no whiskers, and has coarse, homely
features, with a wide mouth and thick out rolling lips.

The case of Polly Friesch.
We learn that Messrs. Wakeman & Bryan, Counsel for Mrs Friesch, who was
last week convicted of murder, have moved for a new trial, and that among
other grounds it is alleged that the jury which convicted her were allowed
to separate; and also, that they had access to the minutes of the Judge.
What other grounds for the application are alleged, we do not know.
The case has been taken into consideration by the Court, and the Jury sent
for. - We presume that the jury will be in attendance to-morrow, and the
matter disposed of as soon as possible.
Of course, the prisoner will not be sentenced until the case is decided
against a new trial - should such a decision be made.
