Hello, Carole! Have you checked out the Civil War Homepage? It is a
divided screen site and has options on the left including "genealogy" and
"unit information" and the right side has "the 5th NY Volunteer Infantry".
I checked them out - in the 5th NY V. I. I used the search engine and found
a John A. Noble in Co. A. But was your uncle's 1st name John? There are
lots of other sites to check out through this Civil War page - hope you find
