For those rooters interested in West Troy, I have photocopied an earlier
history which mentions the churches erected.

This is a small excerpt from "The Capitol Region of New York State", by
Lewis Historical Publishing Company, 1942.

"The First Reformed Dutch Church in the village area was formed in 1814.
A South Dutch Church was organized in 1844. The North Church of West
Troy was organized in 1840. A new edifice, the Jermain Memorial, was
built in 1874. In 1885 the congregation voted to join the Presbytery of
Albany. Other early churches were: Baptist, 1827; Washington Methodist
Episcopal, 1831; Trinity Episcopal and Presbyterian, 1834; St. Patrick's
Roman Catholic, 1839; Ohio Street Methodist, 1849; St. Bridget's, 1850;
Church of Sacred Heart of Mary (French Catholic), 1881."

I hope this will help those of you looking for pre-1882 records in West
Troy/Watervliet area.

Carole
