You keep coming up with great ideas, Nancy - but I have tried some of
them. We were in Schenectady to get the marriage cert for Andrew
Anderson & Mary Bandorz (1889) in July. In fact, we happened to go on
what would have been their 109th anniversary! We then crossed the
street to the Library to search for newspaper obits. The Times Union
wasn't there, but the Schenectady Gazette was. We were unable to get
Andrew's. However, we did get my husband's grandmother (Mary Hoffa
Anderson) and her father (Walenty/William Hoffa), who had lived in
Niskayuna.
We were in Loudonville just a few weeks ago to visit a hospitalized
relative, and I should have gone to the library in Colonie to look for
Times Union obits on microfilm (just no time). I'm hoping that they have
them - otherwise, I'll have to go into Albany I guess. I know Andrew's
death date is Nov 8, 1965 and we've been to his grave. Just can't find
that death cert!
One problem is that the indexes don't go up to 1965 and when I've gone
to Vital Stats in Albany, I am not allowed to search (I have to get a
clerk to do it). I think if I could actually do the searching myself, I
would find it. That's how I found his marriage record on index. We
couldn't find "Anderson" or anything close to the other names
(Andrezewski, etc). So I just started scanning under the "And---"
names, looking for the name Andrew, and it jumped out at me!!
Thanks again for another good idea - keep 'em coming! I know we will
find Andrew one day. But once we find him, then the challenge really
begins - what town in either Poland or Germany was he from!
- Jane
