It seems that Letters of Administration would probably have been filed by the
potential heirs if there was no will - but they would be filed in Albany
Courthouse and indexed right along with a will if it existed. Assuming that
there are no such letters of Admin. filed, I would suspect that the heirs
simply used/divided the land as they wished with no one asking any questions
of ownership. I believe there was much land simply abandoned as well in the
area - no 'legal' record of its passing ownership - I understand from local
residents that squatters appeared in abandoned homes as well.
