I believe, Cliff and Bill, that the way the mouth and throat form the German -ch sound is referred
to by linguists as a "glottal stop." There aren't any English sounds that haven't come in from
other languages that have that same sound, as far as I know. It probably would be explained in a
German-to-English/English-to-German dictionary or grammar book, don't you think? You know, I think
this is the most intellectual list to which I subscribe! 8-)
